This study examines the critique of religious hypocrisy presented by Jesus in Matthew 23, particularly His condemnation of the Pharisees, and applies it to contemporary religious contexts within postmodern society. Through hermeneutical analysis and theological reflection, this research demonstrates how Jesus' criticism of the Pharisees remains relevant for addressing modern forms of religious pretension and spiritual elitism in the digital age. The study employs contextual theological methodology to bridge ancient biblical criticism with contemporary religious phenomena, particularly focusing on performative spirituality in social media and consumeristic Christianity. The findings reveal that the fundamental issues Jesus addressed—external religiosity without internal transformation, spiritual pride, and the burden of legalistic interpretation—continue to manifest in various forms within postmodern Christianity, including digital spirituality, prosperity theology, celebrity Christianity, and neo-legalism. This research contributes to understanding how biblical critique can inform contemporary theological discourse and spiritual formation, offering practical insights for authentic Christian discipleship in a postmodern context.
